Social
and economic obstacles can prevent some young people from
participating in organized sport. The provincial and territorial
sport federations are responsible for the sport system structure
have created KidSport™ to help overcome these obstacles.
KidSport assists children overcome financial
barriers which prevent or limit their participation in organized
sport.
The KidSport program was created to help address the means by
which disadvantaged kids can participate in sport… so ALL kids can
play!
A grant is financial assistance given to an athlete
between the ages of 6 and 18, to help him or her pay for
registration fees and/or purchase equipment. Grants range in value
from $50 to $250, and may be applied towards the participation in
any sport activity that is affiliated with the sportalliance.
KidSport funds are meant to complement, not replace, existing
recreation or social services funding for participation in sport.
