2026 Municipal Election

The next regular municipal election in Ontario will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026. Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October.

The new term of office will begin on November 15, 2026 and continue until November 14, 2030.

This page will be updated throughout the election year with information for voters, potential candidates, certified candidates, election notices, voting details, and official results.

Nomination period opens for candidates. Third party advertiser registration also begins.

Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
Nomination Day. This is the deadline to file a nomination for office and the deadline to withdraw a nomination.

Information for Voters

To vote in a municipal election in Ontario, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • a resident of the municipality, or
  • a non-resident owner or tenant of property in the municipality, or
  • the spouse of a property owner or tenant in the municipality.

Elections Ontario now manages the municipal voters’ list. Voters are encouraged to confirm their information early through the provincial voter registration service to make sure they are ready when voting opens.

Information for Potential Candidates

Thinking about running for municipal office? The 2026 Municipal Election is an opportunity to help shape the future of our community.

To run for municipal council in Ontario, you must generally be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years old
  • a resident of the municipality, or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant
  • eligible to vote in the municipality
  • not otherwise disqualified by law from holding office.

Candidates for mayor or councillor must file a nomination paper, provide the required supporting documents. The filing fee is $100 for councillor and $200 for mayor.

Nomination papers must be filed with the Municipal Clerk during the nomination period. In many Ontario municipalities, nominations are filed in person, not by fax or email, and candidates are encouraged to book an appointment with the Clerk.

A person cannot begin raising or spending campaign funds until their nomination has been filed.

Offices to be Elected

The 2026 Municipal Election will include the offices of Mayor (1) and Councillor (4)  to be filled for the next term of Council.
