Elections

Municipal elections in Ontario are held every four years and give residents the opportunity to elect their local Mayor and Councillors. The Town of Latchford encourages all eligible voters to participate in the democratic process and stay informed about key dates, requirements, and voting options.

Latchford elects one Mayor and six Councillors, all elected at large.

Election Cycle

Municipal elections in Ontario occur on a fixed schedule:

• Election Day: The fourth Monday of October

• Next Municipal Election: October 26, 2026

• Term of Office: November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030

These dates are set by the Province of Ontario under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Who Can Vote

You are eligible to vote in a municipal election if you are:

• A Canadian citizen

• At least 18 years of age

• A resident of Latchford, or

• A non‑resident who owns or rents property in Latchford

• Not otherwise prohibited from voting under the Act

Eligible voters may vote once in each municipality where they qualify.

Nominations for Office

Individuals interested in running for municipal office must file nomination papers with the Municipal Office. Key points include:

• Nomination Period: May 1, 2026 to August 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

• Offices Available: Mayor and Councillor

• Requirements: Nomination form, endorsement signatures, and applicable filing fee

Candidates must meet eligibility requirements outlined in provincial legislation.
