Candidates in the 2026 Municipal Election are subject to limits on the amount they may spend on their election campaigns. The estimated maximum general campaign expense limits for the Town of Latchford are:
| Office | Estimated Maximum Campaign Expenses |
|---|---|
| Mayor | $7,500.00 |
| Councillor | $5,210.00 |
These amounts are preliminary estimates based on the number of electors from the previous municipal election.
When a candidate files their nomination papers, the Clerk provides them with a certificate showing their estimated maximum campaign expense limit. On or before September 30, 2026, each candidate will receive a final certificate based on the number of electors on the voters’ list for the 2026 Municipal Election.
If the preliminary estimate is higher than the final calculation, the preliminary amount becomes the candidate’s official spending limit.
The general spending limit applies to campaign expenses subject to the limit that are incurred from the beginning of the candidate’s campaign through the end of Voting Day. A separate spending limit applies to expenses related to parties and other expressions of appreciation after voting has closed. This separate limit is equal to 10% of the candidate’s general spending limit.
Candidates are responsible for ensuring that their campaign finances comply with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. For additional information, please review the 2026 Candidates’ Guide – Campaign Finance.
